Marijuana prohibition has gone on long enough. The United States jails more people than any other nation—both in absolute numbers and as a proportion of the population—and the vast majority of those people are in jail for the victimless, consensual “crime” of consuming a substance that the government doesn’t approve of. Numerous attempts to pass legislation relaxing marijuana prohibition have failed. An additional tactic is clearly called for.
Some people attend the rallies to protest the current state of affairs. Some people smoke at the rallies as an act of civil disobedience. And some people have simply given up caring what the government’s “laws” say they must not do.
“We smoke these in remembrance of lost liberties—and in a hope for a day when the people don’t fear the government, because the government fears the people.”
— Rich Paul
“People are acting like the free people they should be. I am lawful in that I honor my agreements and will do no harm. I however did not consent to the violent society of government, and I will not follow their arbitrary dictates. I am not alone. Our numbers are growing and we’ll no longer be begging for freedom.”
